Founded in 2014 by Chronogram books editor Nina Shengold, Word Cafe is a vibrant gathering place for Hudson Valley writers and readers. From our first author events at Kingston’s outdated: an antique cafe to co-host Jana Martin’s LitLab classes at The Golden Notebook in Woodstock, Word Cafe is a jolt of literary caffeine.

This entry ramp into a new or elusive project is ideal for beginning writers, experienced writers test-driving new genres, and seasoned pros who’d like to lift off among supportive peers. Come to the first class with two opening lines, one written by you and one by a writer you love. Longtime Chronogram books editor Shengold is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter whose books include Clearcut and River of Words. Maximum 12 students; must preregister.

A craft class and workshop on how to bring your work (fiction and nonfiction) to completion. Acclaimed fiction writer, essayist, editor and journalist Jana Martin (Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Russian Lover and Other Stories) was the 2016 Visiting Guest Artist at SUNY New Paltz, a contributing editor to theweeklings.com, and leads Word Cafe’s popular LitLab.
