SATURDAY WRITING INTENSIVE 1: Literary Jumpstart with Nina Shengold
This hands-on workshop is open to writers of all levels who want to explore the intersection of memoir and fiction, moving from what is to what if? You’ll bring a one-page assignment to the first session. Working from this raw material, with guided exercises in class and revisions at home, you’ll jumpstart a piece of short prose in three weeks. Yes, you can!
Nina Shengold is books editor of Chronogram magazine and the founder of Word Cafe. Her debut novel Clearcut (Anchor Books) was a Book Sense Notable selection and Seattle Post-Intelligencer Best Books pick. She collaborated with photographer Jennifer May on River of Words: Portraits of Hudson Valley Writers (SUNY Press) and with Eric Lane on 13 theatre anthologies for Vintage Books and Viking Penguin. Her plays are published by Playscripts Inc, Broadway Play Publishing, and Samuel French. She also writes for young adults under a nom de tween, and won the Writers Guild Award for her teleplayLabor of Love, starring Marcia Gay Harden. She’s taught creative writing at the University of Maine, Vermont College of Fine Arts, Manhattanville College, and as a Visiting Guest Artist at SUNY Ulster.
